

FFPMP 2 conducts extension and public relations works for various target groups including local communities, city dwellers, and schools. There are campaign activities, field works, development of educational materials and data base.
1. Campaign
FFPMP 2 conducts the Forest Fire Prevention Campaign at the beginning of dry season to increase the awareness of people living in the city and to assist policy makers.In 2002, the campaign was held in Jambi, Sumatra during the month of June. FFPMP 2 proposed to establish a committee for the related agencies including the governor's office, regional forestry offices, and regional education and cultural offices. The campaign opened with an official declaration by the Governor of Jambi. One of the campaign methods was daily media coverage by TV, radio, and newspaper. The music, which was on air everyday, was composed for this campaign. 500 banners with the message "Together we can prevent forest fires", were produced and posted along main streets and other public places to attract public attention. School children also distributed stickers around the city. During the ceremony, the Director General of the Ministry of Forestry and the chief of regional forest service presented their opening speeches. There was also a forest fire quiz and drawing contest. A drama was performed by the staff of national parks and children. The Forest Fire Prevention Campaign is expected to expanded to the national level in the future.
2. Introduction of Project Outputs
The project outputs such as educational materials are utilized for some training courses by the Indonesia government for the purposes of extension work. In 2001, a training course for extension work from all over the Indonesia was held in Bogor. FFPMP2 introduced its activities and distributed educational materials. When the national boy scout assembly was held in Jakarta in 2002, FFPMP2 introduced educational materials and conducted initial forest fire fihgting training.
3. Data Base of Extension WorkFFPMP 2 plans to document the data base for extension work to assist extension activities for forest fire prevention and to enhance the Applicability of efficient models to wider areas.
4. Provision of Information by Internet and PublicationsFFPMP 2 publishes a newsletter periodically to introduce the activities, events, and topics. This material is also available on our web site. The various materials such as calendar, posters, and stickers are also produced for local communities and schools for extension activities.

5. Local Communities
Local communities, especially farmers, are one of the most important target groups due to their strategic locations. The objective of extension work for these groups is to enhance awareness for forest conservation and forest fire prevention through holding meetings and conducting activities such as making hand tools for fire fighting. FFPMP 2 is working with regional forest services, regional agriculture service, chiefs of village , and NGOs to achieve these goals.

6. School
The Objective of extension work for schools is to enlighten and educate children about forest conservation and forest fire prevention. FFPMP 2 has been running educational activities for elementary schools, junior high schools and high schools around Bukit Tigapuluh and Way Kambas national parks. As the first step, FFPMP 2 held meetings with teachers and related agencies to conduct and improve forest classes. As the second step, FFPMP 2 held activities focusing on school teachers for continuation and extension to other areas by development of educational materials.
