

FFPMP 2 conducts initial forest fire fighting training for rangers to protect national parks.
1. Development of Curriculum for Forest Fire Fighting Training
FFPMP 2 developed a training model to improve the skills, knowledge, and role of each personnel. The contents of curriculum are setting and usage of pumps, the methods of maintenance of machines, safety while using hand tool, methods of making information maps for fire fighting, and organization of equipment in the warehouses. FFPMP 2 developed the manuals with VCDs for forest fire fighting training in cooperation with Gunung Palung and Way Kambas national parks from 2001 to 2002. Those materials are now being used during the training sessions.
2. Initial Forest Fire Fighting Training
Model

The manuals for forest fire fighting show the basic measures to deal with
various forest fire situations. During fire fighting, each ranger should play
their respective roles for fast, efficient, and systematic suppression. Forest
fire fighting team members are under the leadership of a commanding officer.
FFPMP2 plans to hold the meeting and competition for the rangers. The objective
for the four national parks participating in these trainings is to improve
the training model in terms of speed, attitude, morale, safety and efficiency
as a team.
The
Forest Fire Fighting Training Center
FFPMP 2 have established the forest fire fighting training center in Bukit
Tiga Puluh national park. FFPMP 2 will conduct assembly training for rangers
from four national parks. This center can also be used for other purposes,
such as eco-tourism.
3. Development of Forest Fire Prevention And Initial Forest Fire Fighting Model
Forest fire fighting teams have already been organized and have had training. The plan of FFPMP 2 from now is to development a patrol system for forest fire prevention and to cooperate with nature resource conservation offices and local institutions for fire fighting in line with the policy of the Ministry of Forestry. Furthermore FFPMP 2 will establish participatory forest fire fighting by local communities.
